The Financial Times has announced Room to Read as it Christmas appeal charity partner, as newspapers kick off their holiday fundraising drives.

The FT’s campaign will begin on 23 November, and could bring in more than £1m for the global education charity - going from past fundraising totals - which was selected by a vote of the newspaper’s 1,600 staff worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph has selected four partner charities: Bliss, Excellent Development, BLESMA and Starehe Future.

The Guardian and Observer continue on with their third-year of Operation Katine, a three-year fundraising campaign for the village of Katine via the development charity Amref. Last year the newspaper group moved to getting its readers to sign up to direct debits, but still raised £181,000 in cash over the course of last year’s appeal.

This approach has been followed by The Sunday Times this year that is concentrating its fundraising for Save the Children on a town, Kingsville, in Liberia and has expressed a target of raising £1 per Times reader, equivalent to £1.2m.
