The NCVO has launched a petition to persuade charities minister Angela Smith to reinstate the £750,000 funding that she has redirected from the Campaign Research Programme to the Hardship Fund.
The umbrella body is seeking to capitalise on the groundswell of opposition within the sector to the decision to withdraw the funding, which its chief executive Stuart Etherington described as "appalling".
The OTS admitted the move breached the Compact but insisted it was more important to support charities through the recession and that was why extra money was needed for the Hardship Fund.
The petition can be signed here.
