Institute owed money by Dialog Group 1

Fundraising | Becky Slack | 3 Apr 2008

The Institute of Fundraising is one of the organisations owed money as a result of the recent Dialog Group restructure.

The Institute will not confirm exactly how much is owed, but PF understands it to be a few thousand pounds in outstanding payments for exhibition stands at last year’s National Convention.

Bruce Leeke, director of events at the Institute of Fundraising said: “Although the Institute cannot discuss our financial relationship with the Dialog Group, we are happy to continue working with them on a number of ongoing projects.”

The group restructure took place following the voluntary administration of its UK operations Dialog Direct Fundraising UK, Face2Face Fundraising UK, NTT Fundraising, Dialog Services and Integrity Recruitment.

These UK companies were bought by a new company, The Dialog Group Operations, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dialog Group International. The company names and brands have been retained, as have their charity clients. However, an unconfirmed amount owed to suppliers has been left behind. Discussions are currently underway to establish suitable repayment agreements with its creditors.

The organisation has been dogged by rumours since the restructure was announced, including claims that charity clients are among those owed money. However, David Walwin, general manager and director of The Dialog Group Operations denies this.

“That is categorically not true,” he told PF. “We do not owe any of our charity clients any money. Some contracts were part paid for in advance, as is the norm for some companies, however these contracts are being delivered.

“This wasn’t a strategy we came to through choice but of circumstances. It was felt it provided us with the best options for all the stakeholders,” he added. “I’d like to point out it wasn’t as a result of poor performance of the UK companies but because of the investment made in the overseas operations.”
