The second real-world Twitter gathering has raised nearly one and a half times the amount as the first one held just seven months earlier.
A simultaneous series of Twestivals, held in hundreds of cities around the world over a couple of days in September had raised more than $362,000 as Professional Fundraising went to press, a significant improvement on the $250,000 raised by the same event held in February.
Since the February event, Twitter has surpassed the traffic levels of MySpace and become the 27th most visited site in the UK, more than doubling its market share from February levels.
But while Twestival has raised more significant amounts of money, another Twitter-based multi-charity fundraising campaign appears to have missed its targets. The American Summer of Social Good, as previously reported in PF, had aimed to raise an unprecedented amount of money for four preselected charities via social networks, but primarily Twitter, with donations being processed on GlobalGiving. However, well after the end of summer, the campaign had raised just over $55,000.
Nevertheless, while according to the latest figures at hand the Social Good had only 2,723 followers, the effort attracted 885 donations at an average value of $62.38.
