The little black dress has long been hailed as staple of women’s wardrobes, but one fundraiser has taken commitment to the LBD to a new level.
New Yorker Sheena Matheiken is wearing the same black dress every day for a year to raise money for charity and awareness of sustainable fashion in a one-woman campaign she has called The Uniform Project.
But, being a thirty-something advertising agency worker, Matheiken is not doing this unfashionably. She has allowed herself to accessorise to the hilt and wear the dress – purpose-designed by her friend – backwards, forwards, open and with many additional layers.
After beginning the year-long effort in May, the $10,000 fundraising mark was hit on Monday. The money is being raised by India-born Matheiken for Akankasha Foundation, which works on education reform in the country.
But it is not solely about donations for the foundation. Matheiken is also asking for donations of accessories from supporters also. Charity, after all, begins at footwear.

Great idea but I hope she is washing it every day as it could get a little high!
