Hunt for Britain's most inspiring fundraiser

Fundraising | Gemma Ware | 1 Mar 2008

The husband of the late fundraiser Jane Tomlinson has launched a competition to find Britain’s most inspiring fundraiser with the charity search engine, Everyclick.com.

Mike Tomlinson said this country had a “very strong ethos” of volunteer fundraising. “It’s important to celebrate people who do a great job. They don’t go into it looking for recognition, and it’s nice to acknowledge that.”

“If it was a professional fundraiser the standard would be a lot higher. What they expect from a professional fundraiser is massively bigger than someone who does this as an altruistic venture,” he said.

Tomlinson said the amount raised was only one part of being an inspiring fundraiser, and that the effort and time involved, as well as the person’s innovative ideas and motivation of others, would also play a part.

The winner will be given £20,000 by Everyclick to donate to a charity of their choice. Entrants need to supply details about the individual and their fundraising efforts, including the impact of the money raised by 28 March 2008.

Tomlinson, whose wife Jane lost her battle to cancer last September, said he planned to break the £2m mark this year raised for her charity, Jane’s Appeal, which he continues to run.
