Parris to leave Remember a Charity

Fundraising | Gemma Ware | 7 Feb 2008

Jonathan Parris has resigned as the chief executive of Remember a Charity.

Parris, who will remain in post until Easter, has been offered a new role closer to his home in the north of England.

Suzanne Levy, who joined RAC last November as interim membership and marketing manager, will replace him as interim director. She is a former head of the Jeans for Genes Appeal.

Parris’s resignation comes as RAC undertakes a strategic review, following the election of a new board and their decision last year not to press ahead with the promotion of a free will-writing scheme.

Stephen George, chair of the consortium and development director of legacies at NSPCC, thanked Parris for his contribution and said the campaign had “achieved record membership levels under his directorship”.

George said RAC was considering how it could shift its focus from awareness-raising to the task of imbedding legacies into the processes people go through when making a will.

“Over the next few months, we will be reviewing our long-term strategy with the key goal of generating behavioural change within the will-making public. We have had significant success in raising awareness, but we now want to focus the campaign on the need for that awareness to be converted into behaviour that results in more legacies and greater legacy income to the voluntary sector,” he said.

Parris has been at RAC for three years. A former fundraiser at Macmillan Cancer Support and Diabetes UK, he also led the merger between Sharing the Caring and CAF.

"The campaign really runs through my blood and I wish it every huge success in the future," he said.
