Ken Burnett unveils creative fundraising website

Fundraising | Becky Slack | 1 Jan 2008

An online showcase of fundraising creativity from around the world was launched this week by fundraising expert Ken Burnett.

SOFII, a website containing examples of fundraising dating as far back as 1235, was developed by Burnett (pictured) as a response to what he perceives as a persistent lack of innovation from fundraisers. It stands for ‘Showcase of Fundraising Innovation and Inspiration’.

“Sadly, most fundraising today is look-alike, stereotyped, aimed at the lowest common denominator, the victim of formulae and formats designed by marketing people for easy mass reproduction,” Burnett said.

SOFII currently contains detailed descriptions of individual examples of fundraising creative, plus seven other sections providing reviews of fundraising books, top tips for fundraising and a discussion board. More content is to follow and fundraisers are encouraged to submit their own entries for inclusion.

“So far SOFII has been conceived and built by just a few volunteers working very part-time,” said Burnett, who picked up the Outstanding Contribution Award at last year’s Professional Fundraising Awards. “But thanks to a recent, generous grant from a private trust we have enough resources to recruit someone to work on the SOFII project full-time so we expect it to grow much more quickly from now on.”

The site is free to use. Simply send an email to maxine@sofii.org asking to be registered.
