Pell & Bales buyout

Pell & Bales, the telephone fundraising agency, has secured buyout and development funding that will allow its founder Simon Pell to retire and new services to be created.

In a deal struck with the company's chief executive, Karl Holweger, a confidential sum of money was provided by specialist investor Iceni Capital, in conjunction with a debt facility from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Two new directors have also come on board. Derwyn Jones and Glen Hurley join from the market services industry where they have experience working with both charities and call centres. They will be tasked with developing a number of new offerings for clients including prospect data services and customer service facilities, such as an extension of Pell & Bales' annual mystery shopper exercise.

The agency counts Cancer Research UK, NSPCC and WWF among its clients and in the last financial year recorded turnover of more than £10m. No redundancies have occurred as a result of the buyout.
