The Institute of Fundraising is expecting to sign up an extra 1,000 small and medium-sized businesses to Payroll Giving before the end of the year, following a door drop campaign of three million businesses and households.
So far this year more than 2,000 small and medium-sized businesses have signed up to the Payroll Giving Grants programme, which rewards organisations with less than 500 employees with a grant of up to £500 if they sign up to Payroll Giving before the end of 2006.
The leaflets, which were distributed at the beginning of October through a combination of solus mail drops and inserts in free newspapers, explain and advise businesses on how to sign up for it.
Tina Steele, payroll giving and project manager at the Institute of Fundraising said: "It's a call to action for those who aren't already givers but have access to Payroll Giving, and equally for employees in smaller businesses if they haven't got a scheme, to take in the leaflets to work."
The Payroll Giving consortium Smile A Minute, which includes Sight Savers International, Mencap and NCH, also says charities must make more of Payroll Giving.
