When might you be forgiven for being at your least charitable to a face-to-face fundraiser collecting for WaterAid? How about sitting in a dinghy paddling through a flood?
Not so for one selfless man in Northern Ireland.
During a downpour in late June a team of street fundraisers working on behalf of WaterAid for the face-to-face fundraising agency DialogueDirect, were forced to stand on benches as the flood waters rose around them.
As the man was being evacuated by dinghy he asked the emergency crew to paddle him over to one of the fundraisers to find out more about the charity.
After striking up a good conversation with the fundraiser, he decided to ignore his own water-based problems and sign up there and then to donate to WaterAid, which helps provide sanitation advice and support to people affected by floods in the developing world.
A spokesman from WaterAid said it was a fantastic, positive example of the general public's goodwill. "We are really pleased that someone would think about giving money to WaterAid under those circumstances," he said.
