The Conservatives mantra this week at their party conference in Blackpool may be it's time for changes, but they haven't forgotten the value of Tory nostalgia if only its ability to raise money for charity.

On Sunday the party launched an online auction of Conservative memorabilia on the internet shopping site eBay for Charity, designed to raise money for charity and promote the party's stance on family values.

As this story was published (Dec 07), a signed photo of Margaret Thatcher winning the 1983 election was doing well in the bidding at £1,000, followed by a cricket bat signed by John Major and a copy of his book on the history of cricket, currently going for £250.

However, a signed copy of David Cameron's inaugural speech to the party conference in 2005 had so far only reached £100.

Other auction items include a night at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in London and a signed political cartoon by The Daily Telegraph cartoonist, Matt.

The Strengthening Families' auction will raise money for Save the Family, a charity based near Chester that helps families facing homelessness stay together, and Time for Families, which supports families with a parent in prison.

Simon Pellew, chief executive of Time for Families, said the charity had won an award from the Conservative-learning Centre for Social Justice, but the news that the charity would benefit from the auction "came out of the blue".

He said he was "more or less" happy to get a bit of extra funding as long as he didn't have to agree with their politics.

The auction runs until 11am on Wednesday, and is hosted by MissionFish, the charity that runs donations via eBay for Charity.
