Cancer Research UK is to restructure its regional fundraising operations – a move that will see the closure of several regional offices and could result in redundancies.
Up to six offices of the charity’s 11 regional offices could close. Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Exeter, Manchester and Newcastle are the regions affected. However, a new National Operations Centre is to be built in Oxford that will allow the charity to centralise support for its community fundraising activities.
A staff consultation is currently underway to discuss the proposals, which include the possibility of staff working at other Cancer Research UK offices, such as its research centres. However, many jobs are likely to become home rather than office-based, and CRUK has admitted job losses are likely.
“Some posts will be at risk of redundancy. However, the creation of the National Operations Centre will result in some new jobs. We would aim to keep any redundancies to an absolute minimum,” said Mark Coote, community fundraising director at the charity.
“Our overall aim is to engage and empower supporters to organise their own fundraising and awareness-building activities. Streamlining our regional operations will deliver cost savings enabling more money to be spent on Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.”
