On average a charity will have saved more than £9,000 in a year through using In Kind Direct’s services, according to a new survey.
In Kind Direct, one of the Prince’s Charities, redistributes surplus goods to UK charities. Charities use the products received from In Kind Direct to run their services or give out to beneficiaries in need for free.
A survey of some 500 charities which have benefited from In Kind Direct’s services finds that 67 per cent say it has helped their charity remain sustainable. The average estimated saving per charity in 2011 through using In Kind Direct is £9,141.
Further one in three charities say that using In Kind Direct has enabled them to reach beneficiaries that they would otherwise not be able to reach, and 80 per cent of charities say ordering from In Kind Direct allows them to source goods and supplies that they would never be able to afford otherwise.
In Kind Direct was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 1996. Since then In Kind Direct has distributed £130 million worth of goods from over 875 companies. Almost 6,000 UK based community and voluntary organisations have received products from In Kind Direct.
Charities, not-for-profit organisations, social enterprises and community groups can all register for free via the website http://www.inkinddirect.org/ to benefit from the service.
