An auction of the late Sir Jimmy Savile’s belongings yesterday has raised £325,000 for his charitable trust.
The Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust’s income last year was £132,546. Its objectives are “the relief of sickness” and other community activities such as providing recreational and other facilities for disabled people.
The auction took place in his Savile Hall in Leeds and lasted almost 13 hours with his Rolls-Royce car going for £130,000 and his original Jim’ll Fix It chair reaching £8,000.
During his lifetime Savile is said to have raised more than £40m for good causes. He died last October aged 84 and in his will he requested that his belongings be sold to raise funds for his charitable trust.
