St Giles Hospice has announced that its chain of retail outlets has raised £10m for the charity, since opening its first shop 27 years ago.
There are now 21 shops in the Staffordshire area raising money for the local charity’s work supporting people with cancer and other serious illnesses.
Lynwen Truesdale head of retail said the team was “delighted” and that: “£10m is a huge amount of money that has done a massive amount of good for people across the region over the years.”
Each shop is run by a shop manager with a team of volunteers, Truesdale added that: “This winning combination is the secret of our success.”
Donated items sold in the shops include clothing, accessories, gifts, homeware, books, DVDs and toys. There is also a range of new goods such as greeting and Christmas cards. It sells furniture in six shops and has six specialist bookshops as well as one specialist bridal shop.
All the shops are set up to claim gift aid.
St Giles Hospice was ranked 33rd in last year’s Charity Shops Survey, with a profit of £653,443 for the year end March 2011, which was an increase of 6.1 per cent from the previous year.
The results of the 2012 Shops Survey will be revealed in the Oct issue of Charity Finance. St Giles Hospice results will be included.
