Statistics Authority invites views on charity tax reliefs data

The UK Statistics Authority is currently assessing the usefulness of the statistics on charity tax reliefs produced by HM Revenue and Customs, but insists the timing has nothing to do with the proposed cap on charitable tax reliefs.

Emma Bowditch, a spokeswoman for the UKSA, said the assessment is simply part of its ongoing examination of various legacy national statistics, as required by legislation, and the fact that this one has come around now is not connected in any way to the proposed cap.

“It’s pure coincidence,” she said.

Bowditch encouraged any charity representatives that use the tables to contribute to the assessment, so that HMRC can improve the statistics and identify any gaps.
