Antony Gormley joins famous artists supporting Shelter

A team of 40 of the world's most celebrated artists will donate artwork for an exhibition and auction to support homelessness charity Shelter.

The Up My Street exhibition will contain exclusive works by Antony Gormley, Julian Opie, Jake and Dinos Chapman and Patrick Hughes, among other renowned artists. Running from 5 – 8 March at the Conningsby Gallery in London, Up My Street follows on from Shelter's House of Cards and 52 Weeks exhibitions which raised £150,000 combined. Shelter hopes £50,000 will be raised by this latest event.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness of the thousands of families in Britain struggling to find and keep a safe and secure place to live. Artists' works will be inspired by a street which has a particular significance to them, and the characters contained within.

Tracy Griffin, Shelter’s director of fundraising, said: “We’re delighted that so many talented people have come together to support Shelter. This exhibition highlights that home is not just about bricks and mortar. The people, sense of security and wider community make it so important to each and every one of us.

“In these tough times homelessness really can happen to anyone. We hope that people will get bidding to help us raise vital funds.”

All artwork will be auctioned in an online gallery at www.shelter.org.uk/upmystreet from Monday 27 February, with the opportunity for people to bid on the artwork remotely.
