Figures due to be released next week will show annual payroll giving donations have increased by just £304,033, despite expectations that an extra £4.76m would be collected using the technique.
Previously the Association of Payroll Giving Organisations said an extra 60,366 employees signed up to the scheme in the 2008-2009, each with an average gift of £78.99 – a total of £4.76m without company matched giving.
But figures to be released on Monday show donations have increased by just £304,033 (0.2 per cent) to £116m.
The total includes £13m in matched funding from employers – an increase of more than £3m on the previous year, meaning even less has been collected from individuals.
AGPO chair Sophie Pritchard was not available for comment.
