Recruitment and donation pledge levels for payroll giving have remained steady, according to the latest figures, prompting suggestions that the giving stream is “recession proof”.
Numbers released by the Association of Payroll Giving Organisations (APGO) show that recruitment of new donors remained steady at 60,366 in the financial year 2008-2009 – a drop of only 576 from 2007-2008 levels.
Average pledged donations saw a similarly minimal slip, dropping from £81.08 in 2007-2008 to £78.99 in the most recent financial year.
The stability of the sign-up figures has been greeted with confidence by the APGO.
APGO chair Sophie Pritchard said that the organisation believes that “payroll giving will weather the economic storm and remain a recession proof form of fundraising”.
