Face-to-face fundraisers signed up 16 per cent more donors in the last financial year than in the year before, according to latest figures.
Street and door-to-door fundraising brought in 681,000 new donors in the 2008/20009 financial year, according to figures released by the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) at its annual general meeting yesterday, 24 June.
PFRA chief executive Mick Aldridge said the estimated value of the new donations is £70m – based on 2006 figures for the average gift level supplemented with gift aid.
“There is now a solid ten-year record of success here in the UK which charities can build on. In the teeth of a recession people still want to give, and give effectively, person to person. Nothing can replace the human touch,” said Aldridge.
While recruitment has fared well during the recession, the PFRA will reveal whether the economic downturn has had any impact on retention levels when it reveals the results of its annual attrition survey at the Institute of Fundraising national convention in a fortnight.
The most recent figures on face-to-face shows donor attrition standing at 49.6 per cent.
