Online donations company Everyclick has now raised a total of just over £2m for UK charities, nearly six years after launching as a philanthropic search engine.
The company, which earlier this year launched Give As You Live – a service which enables online shoppers to make a donation to a selected charity as they shop online via donating affiliate commissions - has to date delivered £2.008m to charities.
The second million pounds of donations has come comparatively quickly for Everyclick. It took the company just under five years to reach the £1m-mark, which it did in January last year. By September 2008 it had raised £491,000.
The company’s expanding offering has likely spurred the increase pace of growth. What started as a search engine which would donate a proportion of ad revenue to charities when users had signed up to the system now encompasses a range of online donation mechanisms, most of which do not require users to give or do anything more than they would normally within their daily routine. In addition to search and Give As You Live, Everyclick also supports fundraising sponsorship pages and e-cards which involve a donation to charity.
Polly Gowers, Everyclick founder (pictured), said she expected growth to continue apace. “We hope that the Everyclick products will continue to raise vital funds for charities and that our latest development, Give As You Live becomes a household name over the next few months, as this has huge potential for the charity sector. There is a hidden revenue stream out there that we want to unlock for the sector,” she said.
“We are boosting consumer uptake via a number of marketing initiatives. These include campaigns with charities, media partners and directly to consumers through social medial channels. We are also continuously working on increasing the number of retailers on board, which is currently over 1,300 and growing every week.”
Given that, according to Forrester research £50bn is currently being spent online, Everyclick estimates that Give As You Live could raise £1.25bn in 2011 alone, assuming the average affiliate commission rate of 2.5 per cent.
