Multi-million match fund again on Big Give

The BigGive is launching another match funding challenge, this time putting a record £3m up for grabs.

Charities have until June 27 to apply to become one of 250 charities eligible to benefit from the match funding challenge, which will become active on December 7.

BigGive says it hopes that the initiative will encourage people to give even in a recession.

The website has run a number of popular match funding challenges in the past. In order to avoid the rush on the site during a £1m match fund offer last December, which saw the entire sum snapped up in 45 minutes, BigGive will this year release the money over five days in an attempt to deliver a fairer spread of matched money.

Reed Foundation founder Sir Alec Reed (pictured) has already pledged £1m of the £3m. The remaining £2m will have to be raised from trustees and major donors by those charities which are successful in becoming one of the match fund recipients.

"It is a tough time for charities," he said. "This challenge gives professional fundraisers a tool to approach heir trustees and supporters for a further donation."
