The search for Britain's Kindest Kid begins

Now in it's fourth year, Britain's Kindest Kid, run by the Charities Aid Foundation and Five News, is again calling for nominations to recognise the nation's kindest children for their exceptional efforts to make the world a better place.

In past years the competition has celebrated the brave and the generous. These include last year's winner, ten-year-old Dylan Ward, who raised money for Macmillan Cancer Research by painting and selling over 70 pictures, and the competition's first winner, Liam Fairhurst, who raised over £317,000 for charity throughout his life before tragically losing his battle with cancer two years after receiving the award.

Launching today, the national TV competition will see five finalists aged 5-16 have their stories told on Five News in late October, allowing the public to vote for who should win the ultimate prize of £1000 pocket money and a £1000 donation to the charity of their choice.

Calling on children to enter the competition, CAF chief executive John Low said: "Over the past three years we have seen fantastic stories about young people making a difference to the lives of others. I know there are many more young people out there whose stories deserve to be told."

Five News presenters Matt Barbet and Emma Crosby will join Low and Sarah Davies, chief executive of Futureversity, on the judging panel. The closing date for entries is Monday 5 September 2011.
