Charity Tax Group launches first public fundraising appeal

The Charity Tax Group has launched a fundraising appeal in a bid to grow funding for its services.

The CTG, an infrastructure body which seeks a better deal for charities on tax, is funded by donations from charities and support from charity tax advisers. It also receives extensive pro bono support from tax specialists working in the sector.

However its total income is relatively low. Income for the year to December 2015 was just under £215,000, according to the latest set of accounts.

The infrastructure body has put up an announcement on its website where it is asking people to make a contribution to its work in 2017 by completing a donation form. It said that 2016 was a "year of uncertainty" for the sector, and that Brexit "presents both threats and opportunities and it is crucial that the interests of charities are considered as the negotiations proceed".

It added: "CTG is already being consulted by senior HMRC and HM Treasury officials and we will need your support to ensure the financial sustainability of charities and identify opportunities to make the tax system fairer and simpler for charities."

The CTG has previously sought donations from charities it works closely with, but has this year widened its appeal to the whole sector.

The CTG said it was seeking to expand the support it offered to the sector, including running events around the country, and offering charities support on Brexit.
