Do you want your salary to be innovative? 3

Fundraising | Celina Ribeiro | 24 Mar 2009

Innovation is – alas – still a buzz word in the charity sector. Around 47 per cent of the emails I receive contain the word ‘innovation’ or one of its many incarnations. Innovative campaigns. Innovative direct mail. Innovative websites.

(Please note: the above statistic is an estimate, based on nothing more than my personal affection for the number 47)

The fact is, however, the very definition of the word ‘innovative’ precludes the possibility that everything claiming to be innovative is, in fact, innovative. If you catch my drift.

My point is, is that something actually interesting in way of pretenders to the innovation throne crossed my virtual path recently. The Institute of Fundraising has launched a consultation into the revision of the Code of Practice on payment of fundraisers.

The brief provided about the revised code said that it will specifically cover “innovative ways to pay fundraisers”.

Now, given what we have established (see above) there to be a great love of innovation in fundraising quarters, my question to fundraisers is – how much do you love it?

So how committed is the sector to innovation? Do you really want your  wage to be innovative?
