New head of charities at Barclays Corporate

Finance | Niki May Young | 18 May 2011

Barclays Corporate has appointed its head of social housing, David McHattie, as the new head of charities, replacing Jon Mosscrop.

McHattie retains both roles within the appointment.

Barclays Corporate has relationships with 70 per cent of the Charity 100 Index, the top 100 charities in the UK, providing full banking to 30 per cent.

For three and a quarter years Jon Mosscrop led the charities team which was set up seven years ago. In April he moved to the Royal Bank of Scotland where he is now director of media and technology.

McHattie, who has 25 years experience in international and corporate banking, introduces himself to the charity sector with sympathy at a time of financial struggle: “There are no silver bullets to end the problems the sector currently faces. Charities are holding on to cash and pulling back on discretionary projects but, we cannot afford to let the immediate pressures consume the sector.

“Our team of relationship directors is not only able to help resolve day-to-day banking issues but also advise on more innovative ideas of how to protect precious income lines which will ensure charities are able to survive and even prosper in these challenging times," he said.

McHattie leads a team of four relationship directors in the charity unit.
