Department of Health adds £7m to the Transition Fund

The Department of Health has boosted the Cabinet Office’s £100m Transition Fund with an extra £7m.

Care services minister Paul Burstow announced the news today, saying many of the charities benefitting from the Transition Fund support the work of the NHS and care services.

“This is the type of joined-up working that will make a real difference to people’s experiences of care,” he said.

Francis Maude, minister for the cabinet office, added: “The additional £7m from the Department of Health means that we can respond positively to all the strongest Transition Fund applications at this stage.”

The Cabinet Office has also announced 183 charities who have been successful in its second funding round, on top of the 17 charities who got money in the first £1m funding pot.

The 183 charities will receive funding amounting to nearly £15m. Recipients include the Damilola Taylor Trust, Croydon Citizen Advice Bureau and Age Concern Birmingham.

To date nearly £17m has been committed. The remaining £90m will be awarded from April 2011 onwards.
