Charities to save hundreds of thousands of pounds via pensions change

Changes to the way the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) collects financial information will mean annual savings to charities of “hundreds of thousands of pounds”, according to the Pensions Trust.

In response to feedback from voluntary sector stakeholders such as the Trust, PPF will ensure that its insolvency risk assessors Dun & Bradstreet will gather information from the Charity Commission rather than relying on charities with defined benefit pension arrangements to send it directly to them.

“The Pensions Trust fully supports developments which produce fairer levies that more accurately reflect the risk that schemes present to the PPF,” said Logan Anderson (pictured), head of customer relations at the Pensions Trust.

“A similar exercise with our social housing schemes has saved hundreds of thousands of pounds each year and we foresee this change will have a similar effect with our charitable employers.”
