The Catch 22, Turning Point and Serco consortium are likely to bid for the management of further prisons in the north of England.
This week, the Ministry of Justice announced competitions for the management of five existing prisons: Birmingham, Buckley Hall, Doncaster, Featherstone 2 and Wellingborough.
A Serco spokesman told Civil Society that the consortium, which won a bid earlier this year to run and manage two new prisons, was likely to bid in this round of tendering.
Meanwhile, the Carpenter House project, a group of Christian organisations, has been in discussions with government about building and running a 350-man jail in Cornwall.
