Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Bridges Social Entrepreneurs Fund has made its first ever investment since its launch in 2008, committing £500,000 to a call centre planning to create over 10,000 jobs for the unemployed.
Call Britannia has now secured over £1m of investment, including £350,000 from Big Issue Invest, £292,500 from the government’s Future Jobs Fund and a further £150,000 of investment, coming from the company’s management team.
Anthony Ross (pictured), director at Bridges Venture said: “Call Britannia’s strong management team, clear social purpose and sustainable business model make the company an exciting first investment for our Bridges Social Entrepreneurs Fund.”
Ed Siegel, director of investments at Big Issue Invest added: “We are confident that the company will be equally committed to the making of social returns as well as financial ones. This is an absolute requirement of Big Issue Invest, and the investment agreements include a newly-designed incentive scheme for Call Britannia owner-managers which is triggered only after both financial as well as strict social performance targets are met.”
