NCVO has secured funding from the European Commission for its new European umbrella organisation European Network of National Associations (ENNA).
ENNA, which is spearheaded by NCVO, represents civil society umbrella organisations from Austria, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, N Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Scotland and Slovenia.
The group is currently discussing how the recession is affecting voluntary organisations and how they can develop support for them.
It is also looking at developing a European Charter which would act like the UK Compact and ensure that all voluntary bodies have a relationship with the EU and have the same recognition as they would do at home.
Stuart Etherington, chief executive of NCVO, said: “This is a momentous occasion and I am proud that so many countries are represented.”
The European Commission funding will be used to hold two events for ENNA, one in Warsaw in November and the other in London next March.
