Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Catherine Johnstone, former interim chief executive of Capacitybuilders, has been appointed as chief executive of Samaritans after spending four months as interim chief executive of the charity.
Sophie Andrews, chair of Samaritans said: “In Catherine’s capable hands, I know that our new six-year strategy Taking the Lead to Reduce Suicide will have a real impact on the lives of these people in emotional distress that our service aims to help.”
Starting her career as a nurse, Johnstone has worked in the charity sector for 15 years – 13 as a CEO.
