Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
There is greater optimism in the civil society sector about the future, according to the latest Charity Forecast Survey.
The overall confidence levels of charity leaders has risen by nearly a third (28 per cent) since the first three months of this year, according to figures from the latest NCVO quarterly survey.
But while confidence has increased, more leaders – chief executives, directors, trustees and senior managers – believe the financial situation at the organisation will get worse over the next year (37 per cent) then predict their situation will improve over the same period (30 per cent). Some 7 per cent expect to have to cut services over the coming year.
And while nearly half expect to increase services, only 31 per cent expect to increase staff levels, with 52 per cent planning to keep staff numbers steady.
As in recent Forecast Surveys, a majority said they expected collaboration to increase.
NCVO chief executive Stuart Etherington welcomed the “encouraging signs” within the Forecast. “It’s good to see the sector is showing its determination to weather the economic storm,” he said.
