Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases

Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
The European Year of Volunteering 2011 is at risk of being underfunded, according to the European Centre of Volunteers (CEV).
The European Commission (EC) has officially announced its support for the volunteering initiative and proposed a budget of 8 million euros.
However, CEV, a European network of volunteer centres and volunteer development across Europe, has said 8 million euros will not be sufficient and called on the Council of European Union and the European Parliament to support the initiative and increase the budget.
