European Year of Volunteering 2011 is underfunded

The European Year of Volunteering 2011 is at risk of being underfunded, according to the European Centre of Volunteers (CEV).

The European Commission (EC) has officially announced its support for the volunteering initiative and proposed a budget of 8 million euros.

However, CEV, a European network of volunteer centres and volunteer development across Europe, has said 8 million euros will not be sufficient and called on the Council of European Union and the European Parliament to support the initiative and increase the budget.

The objectives of EYV 2011 are –

Work towards an enabling and facilitating environment for volunteering in the EU
Empower volunteer organisations and improve the quality of volunteering
Reward and recognise volunteering activities
Raise awareness of the value and importance of volunteering
