Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases

Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Labour’s cabinet office minister, Liam Byrne has written to Conservative shadow minister Francis Maude, to ask him to explain the Conservative proposals to cut £100m from the Cabinet Office budget.
Conservative leader David Cameron (pictured) has committed to decreasing government department spending by one per cent in real terms if his party gains power. The move would cut £100m from the Cabinet Office’s budget.
Byrne said: "I hope that Francis will urge David Cameron to reverse this policy. Cameron’s public spending cuts this year will mean less funding for young people who wish to volunteer; less funding for charities helping people coping with recession; and less funding for critical public services."
Maude, however, has hit back by saying the Labour Party’s comments are "completely unfounded."
"Within the Cabinet Office budget, we have already identified back office savings in government advertising and public sector consultants," said Maude, "We are simply planning to bring those efficiency savings forward by twelve months."
