Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases

Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Third sector minister Kevin Brennan has promised that the government will unveil a package of financial support to help charities through the coming recession after the pre-budget report on 24 November.
In a response to a question by shadow charities spokesman Nick Hurd in the House of Commons last week about how the government would support charities suffering from cashflow problems, Brennan (pictured) said: “I can confirm that the Office of the Third Sector is working closely with Treasury officials to develop a package of support measures for charities that will be outlined later this month after the pre-budget report.”
Brennan will also be co-chairing the sector-wide summit organised by the NCVO on the morning before the report is delivered.
