Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases

Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
Commissioner for the Compact Sir Bert Massie will mark his presence online with a new blog set to be launched on the Compact website later this year.
A Commission for the Compact spokeswoman said a picture gallery and a blogs section would be launched on its website this autumn. “We will invite local Compact champions and key people at the Commission and Compact Voice to contribute,” she said. “The aim is also for Sir Bert Massie to have a blog.”
It will be the second stage in a revamp of the website which had a series of overhauls last week.
New features include an interactive forum to share ideas and respond to the debate on the future of the Compact, a link to Compact Voice’s series of networking forums and a Compact events and news section.
The site also has a facility that reads web pages aloud. ‘Browsealoud’ is designed for people who find it difficult to read online.
Commissioner for the Compact Sir Bert Massie said: “The new features we’ve added to the Compact website are just the start of a process aimed at making it a useful resource for gathering information, publicising events and giving people a chance to interact with one another. We welcome input from all those involved with the Compact, be it a local, regional or national level.”
