Charities in Twitter storm over balloon releases
24 May 2012
Charities are being urged to abandon balloon releases in a Twitter a campaign.
The Charity Commission has finally published a package of guidance material to help charities of all sizes prepare accounts and trustee reports under Sorp 2005. A new co-ordinated webpage also provides direct links to the accounts of leading charities who adopted Sorp 2005 early, providing practical examples and illustration.
A receipts and payments accounts pack, and an accrual pack can currently be downloaded and printed and will shortly be available in a format that can be completed on a computer. The Commission has also published a pack of six example accounts to help charities design the content and layout of their own accounts. More examples and further links to the accounts of other early adopters will be added.
Andrew Hind, Charity Commission chief executive, said: ‘Sorp 2005 has an important role to play in helping charities better explain how they benefit the public and what they achieve. We’re trying to do everything we can to help charities implement the Sorp recommendations in a way which is most suitable to their individual context.’
The guidance can be downloaded from the Commission’s website at www.charitycommission.gov.uk.
