NCVO manifesto calls

NCVO HAS LAUNCHED its General Election manifesto with which it will campaign to influence the policies of parliamentary candidates and the next government. It contains specific recommendations that an Invest to Give programme should be initiated, established, and resourced. This would be an ongoing programme aimed at encouraging organisations to seek the giving of time and charitable donations from targeted sections of the public, including young people. NCVO suggests that if the Charities Bill fails to make it onto the statute book before the election then a Bill should be introduced in the first Queen's Speech following the election. NCVO also wants an independent review of the impact and cost of the VAT burden on charities, as well as calling for Government to work with the sector to identify ways of ensuring statutory obligations on local government to implement Local Compacts effectively. Additionally it has proposed that all unclaimed assets from financial insitutions should be transferred to charities.
