Charity sector representatives at CIPFA and ICAEW have expressed their regret over last month's vote by members of ICAEW on the two institutes merging. However, they have pledged to continue working closely together. A threshold of two thirds was required for the merger to go ahead, and fell just short with 65.7 per cent supporting the move, about 540 votes below of what was needed.
Peter Gotham, chair of the charity and voluntary sector group of ICAEW said he was disappointed but added that ICAEW would continue to work with other accountancy bodies on joint initiatives.
Chris Harris, chair of CIPFA's charities panel, said: "The arguments for change are persuasive and with members from all six CCAB bodies working side by side within the charity sector it is difficult to maintain a strong sense of difference. We intend to continue working closely with the ICAEW group and will explore further areas of co-operation in the future."
