The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) has joined with London South Bank University (LSBU) to establish new qualification in charity finance. The Certificate in Charity Finance and Accounting has been specifically designed to meet the needs of those working in the finance functions of charities that do not yet hold a recognised finance qualification directly relevant to their work. The course will commence in autumn 2006.
Income from major donor fundraising has soared by as much as 186 per cent over the past year and 300 per cent over three years, according to new research. Fundratios, the annual charity fundraising benchmarking project, analyses the fundraising income and expenditure of 37 charities with a combined voluntary income of £1.3 billion.
The Charity Commission has launched new guidance on collaborative working and mergers. Commission chief executive Andrew Hind said that while it was not part of its agenda to push charities into partnerships and mergers as diversity was an important strength of the sector, "where the conditions are right, and trustees can see clear advantages, we are happy to provide support from a newly created expert staff resource to help charities extend form collaborative working into full merger."
The majority of the UK's larger charities are growing at a rapid rate according to the recently released Top 3000 charities guide. Total income growth in the sector was 16 per cent. However, two thirds of the top charities increased their income over the previous year by 24 per cent.
