Regeneration charities are streets ahead

Regeneration charities are excelling in terms of performance, effectiveness and best practice despite being 'the newest kids on the charity block', according to a Charity Commission report.

The Regeneration Game shows that 86 per cent of regeneration charities regularly review the diversity of their boards and 63 per cent carry out a skills audit before recruiting new trustees. Only 17 per cent of other charities carry out such audits.

Rosie Chapman, the Commission's director of policy and effectiveness, said: 'These charities are characterised by models of best practice in a whole range of areas and it really shows. The level of accountability is exceptionally high, particularly in terms of measuring impact and involving users. They provide a great example to other charities grappling with issues of trustee scarcity and user involvement.'

The report is the first such review and looked at the 250 organisations registered since regeneration was first recognised as charitable in 1999.
