Charity Bank steps down from Futurebuilders board

Charity Bank is to step down from the Futurebuilders board from 1 April 2008. It will be replaced by Social Enterprise Coalition as the pre-qualification questionnaire process begins for the management of the second phase of the Futurebuilders fund. Gareth Jones reports.

Charity Bank is one of Futurebuilders England's four founding members who each have at least one director represented on the board. The NCVO, Unity Trust Bank and Northern Rock Foundation will continue as members.

Mark Howland, Charity Bank's head of marketing, said: "Charity Bank led the original consortium to test the applicability of an investment rather than a funding approach to third sector public service delivery. Now that the action research programme is entering a new phase Charity Bank considers it appropriate to concentrate on its wider developing market and allow others to develop further the principles of the Futurebuilders programme."

Newly joining as board directors are Michele Giddens, executive director of Bridges Ventures, and Tony Henfrey, an independent corporate turnaround chairman. Paul Harbard, currently one of the representatives of Charity Bank, will continue on the board in a personal capacity. Futurebuilders' independent directors are also set to change, with Peter Wheeler, the current chair, and David Gold leaving the organisation before the second phase. An open recruitment process will begin this month to recruit a new independent chair.
