ACF and Schroders examine charities' spending decisions

Finance | Tania Mason | 20 Sep 2012

The Association of Charitable Foundations and Schroders Charities have joined forces to investigate how endowed charities arrive at their expenditure decisions.

Judgements about how much they should spend each year is a key question for charities with investment assets, and the ACF and Schroders are keen to examine how these decisions are made and how investment strategies affect such decisions.

Richard Jenkins, the author of the recent report The Governance and Financial Management of Endowed Charities, has been commissioned to write a new report exploring the level of current spending, the techniques used for budgeting and the quest for sustainability.

As part of his research, Jenkins has created a survey examining charities’ different approaches and is inviting responses at this link until 12 October.
