Labour hosts children's charities summit

The Labour Party is holding a summit of charity and voluntary sector groups today to discuss the impact of the current government’s policies on children’s charities and their services.

The Children and Young People Summit will take place at the Houses of Parliament, and will be hosted by Labour shadow ministers Gareth Thomas MP (civil society), Sharon Hodgson MP (children and families), Karen Buck MP (education) and Chris Williamson MP (communities and local government).

Charities in attendance include Scope, the Children’s Society, Action for Children and Catch 22.

Karen Buck said: “With youth services being amongst the hardest hit as public spending cuts bite, our summit will offer a much-needed opportunity to assess the impact and find out what opportunities exist to build the case for a new model of youth work and early intervention in the lives of young people at risk.”
