Catch22 and Turning Point to share in £250m prison contract with Serco

Finance | Vibeka Mair | 5 Sep 2011

Turning Point and Catch22 will deliver a payment-by-results rehabilitation programme, in a new partnership with Serco, at HM Prison and Young Offenders Institution Doncaster.

The new contract will commence in October and is valued at around £250m over 15 years. As part of the contract, management and staff at Serco will be working in partnership with  Turning Point and the Catch22 to pilot a rehabilitation programme, on a payment by results basis, to reduce reoffending. This is the first such pilot in the UK.

It is the third prison contract which Serco, Turning Point and Catch 22 are all involved in.

Last year, the group signed a £415m contract to build and run a new prison at Belmarsh West, London for the next 26 and a half years.

The new prison at Belmarsh West, in London, to be known as HMP Thameside, will be completed in early 2012 and operations will begin soon afterwards. It will provide 900 prisoner places.

The group also plan to build and operate a prison in Liverpool - HMP Maghull will provide 600 prisoner places.
