The UK’s most renowned children’s hospital is feeling better after a recent judgement on a £1.2m legacy which would have been reduced by 80 per cent by Belgian tax laws.
The recent European Court of Justice decision on Persche v Finanzamt Ludenscheid has the potential to create some new opportunities for UK charities, say Shimon Shaw and Jerry Golland. Mr Persche, a German resident, had a house in Portugal. Near this house is a retirement home with a children’s home attached. In 2003, Mr Persche donated some linen, Zimmer-frames and toy cars (presumably for the children), with a total value of €18,180.
