Jane Klauber is a partner at Russell-Cooke Solicitors, with a particular interest in employment law on behalf of the charity team. She specialises in advising charities and voluntary sector organisations on all aspects of employment law.
Before joining Russell-Cooke Jane was an employment partner at Sinclair Taylor & Martin for over eight years. She now represents clients and Russell-Cooke as a member of both the Employment Lawyers Association and the Charity Law Association.

There's a new ACAS code for disciplinary and grievance procedures and a 25 per cent penalty for not complying, says Jane Klauber. The much criticised statutory dismissal and grievance procedures were abolished on 6 April 2009. In their place Tribunals will have regard to a new ACAS Code of Practice on disciplinary and grievance procedures and awards of compensation may be increased or decreased by up to 25 per cent if either party unreasonably fails to comply with the Code. However breach of the provisions of the Code by the employer will no longer lead to findings of automatic unfair dismissal which was the case under the statutory dismissal procedure.
Jane Klauber assesses new equality legislation. There have been equality laws in the UK for over 30 years. The government proposes to rationalise these with a new single Equality Act which will harmonise the various strands of anti-discrimination legislation.
