Accounting software

Accounting software is "application software that records and processes accounting transactions within functional modules such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and trial balance".

The provision of accounting software for charities is dominated by Sage, which according to Charity Finance’s Accounting Software Survey 2009 supplied to 45 per cent of charities, with 35 per cent of charities using the Sage Line 50 package.

A common complaint is that the specific accounting needs of the charity sector mean that many smaller organisations are unable to find an affordable package with sufficient functionality to cope with the likes of fund accounting, payroll and gift aid.
